What Is A Professional Service Corporation License?
If a dentist has organized his or her practice with the Secretary of State under the Illinois Professional Service Corporation Act, the dental practice must also obtain a Professional Service Corporation (PSC) license from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). The PSC license is strictly a business license and is provided to the business itself. It is not issued to an individual dentist who is employed by the PSC.

A PSC is a corporation organized solely for the purpose of rendering ONE category of a professional service, which includes dentistry. All shareholders, directors, officers, agents and employees (other than ancillary personnel and/or secretary of the corporation) MUST be licensed under the same professional licensure Act. There are a few exceptions to the requirement that everyone must be licensed the same. A combination of the following services can be provided under a PSC license:

  • Practice medicine in all of its branches
  • Practice of podiatry
  • Practice of dentistry
  • Practice of optometry

Please note, a PSC license through IDFPR is an additional business license that is required after all the proper paperwork has been submitted to the Department of Business Service at the Secretary of State.

Also, please note this license is a separate license from the professional license to practice dentistry in the State of Illinois.

How Do I Obtain a PSC License If My Business Does Not Have One?

What Do I Need to Do If I Already Have A PSC License?

You are required to renew your PSC license every three years. The Department will send the email address of the business a renewal notice, much like it does for a license to practice dentistry.
